The First Step to Wealth Wisdom

The fear of the Lord
is the beginning of knowledge;
fools despise wisdom and discipline.

Proverbs 1:7

How in the world does this verse have anything to do with wealth building?

While this website is about how to help ordinary people to build wealth, if we are going to share the “secrets of building wealth”, there is a practical reality that people need to understand about the role that God plays in all of this.

The Love of money is the root of all kinds of evil (1 Tim 6:10). If you want to get rich quick, you can do so in a lot of ways. And the love of money will be the fuel to get you there.

But if you want to build lasting wealth, it happens through starting with knowing that you are not the end all and if God grants you financial success, the money doesn’t make you the most important person in the room.

Fearing God is the beginning of knowledge. If you fear God, then the money that you’ll have in your life, like you, will be subject to the will of God. It won’t be subject to your ego. You won’t be the god in your life. You won’t be the end all.

One of the problems with wealth is that it is extremely easy to not have wealth but allow the wealth to have you. But when you are completely subject to the will of God, then you are ready to understand wealth. When God has taken precedence in your life and he has become your Lord.

While this blog won’t be an exclusive Christian blog, and it is meant for anyone; for me to explain finances a vital part of that is being led by God.

When Jesus met the rich young ruler, he asked what he could do to receive eternal life(Mark 10:17-22). After explaining that he needed to follow the law perfectly and the young guy explaining that he had, Jesus makes an extremely interesting statement. He told him to sell all he had. And then he said to give the money to the poor. And the man left sad because he has a lot of possessions.

I’ll break this story down in another post but we have to realize that our possessions can own us. If we are going to follow God we can’t allow ANYTHING to take his place.

Once we realize that God is to be preeminent. Meaning, that God has first place in all things. Once we realize that, then we’ve got the father of all creation on our side. He has the cattle on a thousand hills. He will supply all of our needs and if we want to build wealth to serve him with, he will bless our ventures.

The Fear of the Lord is the beginning of the knowledge that we need to build wealth. It all starts with fearing God. And that’s such a difficult thing in our prideful society. We don’t understand the importance of healthy fear.

When I’m standing in the road and a semi truck is coming at me, I have a healthy fear to get out of the way. Fear is a great thing to have. Fearing God is extremely smart when you understand how big he is and how small we are.

As well, fools despise wisdom and discipline. Wisdom and discipline go together. Wisdom teaches us to serve God with our lives and to trust him. Discipline teaches us to come under the hand of God. It teaches us what is right and what is wrong. Fools despise wisdom and discipline.

If you want to run a business, build wealth and/or have financial stability, fearing God is your first step.
